BIO
I’m originally from Gaithersburg, MD, a suburb of Washington DC. I spent my adolescent years in Iowa before joining the Army and moving around the world. I lived four years on tanks, then covered the Iraq War as an Army journalist and was honored as their Military Journalist of the Year in 2005. I attended UT Austin’s Department of Radio-Television-Film, where I focused on cinematography and documentary. I took jobs on a couple of big-budget movies and quickly decided to move into freelance work. Ever since then I’ve been traveling about and shooting as much as I possibly can.
I enjoy watching and making all types of movies, but documentary is closest to my heart. Nothing tops the feeling of successfully engaging a subject and watching them unfold in front of the camera, except maybe capturing a shot that communicates what words cannot. The purely cinematic moment is always also a high-five moment. Regardless if a work is commercial or artistic in its ambition, whatever the medium, integrity lines the pathway to the hearts and minds of the audience. To communicate effectively, you have to keep it real. That’s the highest goal of all my work.
